Canada Soccer announced that 54 clubs across five provinces, including 15 from Alberta, have been selected to participate in Year 2 of the TELUS She CAN Coach program. This program recruits, develops, and trains female soccer coaches to address their challenges regarding soccer participation. Specifically designed for new and entry-level women coaches, it focuses on those interested in starting or continuing Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education. By providing access to education, training, and tailored support, the initiative aims to break down barriers, encourage more women and girls to participate in soccer and promote gender equity at all levels of the sport.
The 15 Alberta clubs that will take part in year 2 of the program are:
- Airdrie & District Soccer Association
- Big Country Soccer Association
- BTB Soccer Club
- Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club
- Calgary Foothills SC
- Calgary Rangers Soccer Club
- Calgary South West United
- Calgary Villains FC
- Chinooks Soccer
- McKenzie United Soccer Club
- North Calgary Football Club
- Sherwood Park District Soccer Association (Phoenix FC)
- Southwest United Edmonton
- St. Albert Impact
- West Hills United Soccer Club
According to Lisa Grant, Alberta Soccer Executive Director, “This marks a critical step in removing barriers to soccer participation. We were glad to learn that Alberta will have the biggest representation in all of Canada, and it shows that the first iteration of the program was highly successful for all participants.”
