Travel Sanctioning

IMPORTANT: Travel permit applications MUST BE typed up. Handwritten rosters will not be accepted.

Anytime a team travels outside of Alberta to compete in a tournament, attend a training camp or compete in exhibition games, they must complete a travel permit application.

Travel permits protect:

  1. The travelling team. Travel permits are only approved if the tournament is sanctioned by the associated Provincial, State, or National Soccer Association. Restricting travel to unaffiliated tournaments ensures teams are travelling to a real tournament with universal standards and therefore reduces the risk to teams.
  2. The tournament. By requiring a travel permit, tournament organizers know that those attending their event are properly registered and in good standing.
  3. The players. All players and team officials attending a sanctioned event in Alberta are covered under Alberta Soccer’s insurance policy. Travel permits extend this coverage beyond Alberta’s borders for the duration of the tournament.

All travel permit applications for travel within Canada must be submitted at least 14 days before departure. Applications for travel to the US or internationally must be submitted at least 6 weeks before departure. Tournaments will not permit a team to compete without a signed travel permit application.

Travel permit application process:

  1. Team/club submits all required forms and fees to their District.
  2. District approves the travel permit and roster and sends it to Alberta Soccer.
  3. Alberta Soccer approves the permit and returns it to the District.
  4. If necessary, Alberta Soccer obtains permission from Canada Soccer before returning the approved permit to the District.
  5. Alberta Soccer forwards all documents to the insurance company for coverage.
  6. Once processed, the insurance company sends an insurance certificate (certificates are not necessary for travel, but are available upon request).
  7. District sends the approved travel documents back to the team/club.
