Alberta Soccer Awards
Each year, Alberta Soccer gives out awards to those who show outstanding achievement or a dedication to the sport we all love. The passion and dedication these players, coaches, referees, administrators, volunteers, and leaders demonstrate each day inspires and motivates those in their communities and beyond. If you know a person (or people) who deserves recognition for their achievements and contributions to soccer, show them your appreciation and nominate them for an Alberta Soccer Award.
Legacy Awards for Long-Term Contributions
Life Membership
Life Membership Award for the Alberta Soccer Association is a significant recognition that should
celebrate longstanding dedication and contributions to the organization.
Candidates should be nominated by Districts/Club of Alberta Soccer, and/or ASA Staff, and ratified by the ASA Board of Directors.
President’s Award
Selected by the Alberta Soccer President to recognize one person’s outstanding achievement and contribution to soccer.
Shield of Merit
Shield of Merit Award for the Alberta Soccer Association is a significant recognition, and it
should reflect exemplary contributions, achievements and long term dedication within the sport
in Alberta.
Candidates should be nominated by Districts/Club of Alberta Soccer, and/or ASA Staff, and selected and ratified by the ASA Board of Directors.
Current members of the Board of Directors or past members of one year or less are not eligible for nomination.
Golden Whistle
Golden Whistle Award for the Alberta Soccer Association recognizes outstanding contributions
and achievements to the individual who has a long-standing contribution to officiating.
Candidates are recommended by Alberta Soccer Referee Development Team, and/or ASA Staff,
and selected and ratified by the Alberta Soccer Board of Directors.
Current members of the Referee Development Team or past members of one year or less are not eligible for nomination.
Bert Goldberger Technical Award
Presented to an individual who has demonstrated Technical Leadership in an effort to enhance
the reputation of soccer in Alberta. The recipient should lead or inspire others to improve the
game of soccer from a regional, provincial, national or international perspective.
Candidates are recommended by Alberta Soccer Technical Committee, and/or ASA Staff,
and selected and ratified by the Alberta Soccer Board of Directors.
Current members of the Technical Committee or past members of one year or less are not eligible for nomination.
Recognition Awards for the Past Year or Recent Year’s Contributions
Woman of Distinction
This award recognizes one woman’s outstanding achievements and contribution to leading,
administration, coaching, officiating and/or playing soccer in Alberta.
Candidates should be nominated by Districts/Club of Alberta Soccer, and/or ASA Staff, and selected and ratified by the ASA Board of Directors.
Golden Shoe
The Golden Shoe Award – Team of the Year is a prestigious recognition presented by the
Alberta Soccer Association to honor and celebrate the remarkable success of a team in
both youth and senior divisions during the 2023 soccer season. This award acknowledges
the collective achievement of the team and their exceptional contributions to the sport of
soccer in Alberta.
Candidates should be nominated by Districts/Club of Alberta Soccer, and/or ASA Staff, and selected and ratified by the ASA Board of Directors.
Silver Badge Award
The Silver Badge Award is a prestigious recognition presented by the Alberta Soccer
Association to honour young or new referees. This award celebrates their dedication, loyalty,
leadership, and support for other officials during the past year, as they aspire to further
develop their careers as soccer referees.
Candidates are recommended by Alberta Soccer Referee Development Team, and/or ASA Staff,
and selected and ratified by the Alberta Soccer Board of Directors.
Current members of the Referee Development Team or past members of one year or less are not eligible for nomination.
Award of Merit
Presented to those who’ve displayed great achievements and brought pride to soccer in the past year.
Candidates should be nominated by Districts/Club of Alberta Soccer, and/or ASA Staff, and selected and ratified by the ASA Board of Directors.
Physical Literacy Coach of the Year
The Coach of the Year Award is a prestigious recognition presented by the Alberta Soccer
Association to honor trained coaches who are dedicated to Long-Term Player Development
(LTPD) Stages 1, 2, and 3 (Active Start, FUNdamentals, or Learn to Train). This award
celebrates coaches who direct their programs with sportsmanship and adhere to the
principles of the LTPD plan, while also demonstrating aspirations for further development at
the provincial and/or national level.
Candidates are recommended by Alberta Soccer Technical Committee, and/or ASA Staff,
and selected and ratified by the Alberta Soccer Board of Directors.
Current members of the Technical Committee or past members of one year or less are not eligible for nomination.
