The ABREX group travelled to Vancouver for the Whitecaps HPP Combine from Nov. 11-15, 2019 and saw them compete against top players from around the country in the Whitecaps Academy Centre network to form Academy Centre teams, the BC Provincial Team and the BCREX U16s. The 2004/2005 group from across Alberta was selected from the Alberta South REX and the FC Edmonton REX Programs to showcase themselves in front of CSA Super REX Staff, University and College coaches from across North America, and Canada Soccer National Teams Staff.

“The girls had a great week against some fantastic opposition from around the country. They have had five games over the five days we have been here and have been fantastic in each one of them” said Jordan Stewart of the trip. The ABREX Director and Regional Coach South continued, “it’s imperative that these girls play in matches like this to help test themselves and prepare them for the next level.”

The ABREX group went undefeated by beating both Whitecaps Academy Centre teams, the BC HPP Provincial Team, and drawing with the BCREX U16s. From here a total of 12 players out of 20 were selected from Alberta to participate in the Game of Distinction to cap off a very rewarding week.

“It was a successful week on many levels. The girls were given an opportunity to have high quality opponents and to be evaluated by key individuals in the Canadian soccer landscape, coaches were able to collaborate and provide mentorship to each other, and universities got an early view of the exciting female talent coming out of Alberta.”

The ABREX program will continue training throughout the winter in a best-with-best environment. All training sessions are open to come and view for those interested, and more information can be obtained by visiting: https://albertasoccer.com/player/excellence/ or contacting Jordan Stewart at jstewart@albertasoccer.com.
