The Alberta Soccer Association announced that Calgary Wild FC will manage the Alberta Soccer High-Performance Program from October 2024. The club, established as the first-ever professional women’s soccer team from Alberta, presents as an excellent step on the pathway for young local players.
The High-Performance Program’s aim is to identify and provide development opportunities for young female players in Alberta including competition through friendlies and participation in League1 Alberta Women’s division. The inaugural year proved to be successful with the team finishing up in second place in 2024. Participating youth players benefited greatly testing themselves against adult players in a highly competitive environment.
“We are confident that Calgary Wild FC will do a fantastic job nurturing and growing this already thriving program. Their passion and genuine interest in elevating women’s soccer in our province makes us certain that this partnership will enhance the development of many female players,” said Lisa Grant, Alberta Soccer Executive Director.
“We are excited to partner with ASA to build out the pathway to professional soccer for young women across Alberta,” said Deanna Zumwalt, Exec Chair of the Wild FC. “The pathway is an important part of who we are. By creating opportunities through soccer, we will elevate a generation of young female leaders on and off the pitch.”
We thank Calgary Foothills Soccer Club for their vital help setting up and running this program in its inaugural year.
