(May 27, 2016) After being at the forefront of implementing the pilot C License program in Canada in 2014, Alberta Soccer will begin its offering of the 2016 edition of these courses this weekend in Spruce Grove. The C License Program is considered the entry level to Licensing and is the pre-requisite stepping stone for entry into Part A of the B License program.
With 34 candidates attending from across the province, this will be the largest C License course delivered to date. Hosted from May 26 to May 29 at Fuhr Park in Spruce Grove, candidates will participate in classroom sessions, on-field sessions and mock evaluations. After completion of the course, participants will need to successfully complete an evaluation either later this year or in future years to attain their C License certification.
Alberta Soccer’s Manager of Coach Education, Jim Loughlin, will lead the delivery of this course with help from Technical Director of Sherwood Park Soccer, Ian Skitch and Alberta Soccer’s Regional Coach-South, Jordan Stewart. Former Grant MacEwan men’s soccer Head Coach, Cam Leverman and University of Alberta Pandas Head Coach, Liz Jepsen, will also assist with mock evaluations.
The C License has been built to provide coaches more comprehensive training and education at the introductory level and officially replaced the Pre B Assessment in 2014. The C License is recommended for coaches who are working with players at a Tier I and II level. Starting in 2017, a mentorship component will be offered as part of the C License to help coaches become more effective working with their own teams and contribute to greater success in completing their evaluations.
Regionalized evaluations for the C License will be hosted September 19 and 20 and October 17 and 18 in Calgary and Edmonton. Alberta Soccer will also run another C License Course August 3-7 in Calgary. The Provincial B License Course for coaches who have already attained their C License will run June 28 to July 3 in Calgary. Registration for all of these dates is still open on our TSI Sports platform.
