On September 23 in Calgary, Alberta Soccer’s Grassroots Development department will launch a FREE pilot program aimed at encouraging more female coaches to take the field.

Unfortunately, the number of girls and women participating in sport is declining. John Clubb, Grassroots Development Manager, believes that by handing the coaching reins over to more women, we can begin to counteract the disappointing statistics.

The Girls Goals program hopes to inspire females to enjoy their coaching experiences within grassroots soccer enough to eventually pursue coaching certification opportunities. Clubb suggests that although some coaches are hesitant to continue coaching as their player’s progress, this isn’t necessary. Confidence in the tactical game can be learned by simply continuing to coach. After all, every high performance coach began at the grassroots level!

Alberta Soccer is looking for 20 female coaches to take part in the free Girls Goals program in Calgary on September 23. Participants will receive a full day of training and support – learn more here.

We are also looking for at least 100 female players to join us at the all-girls Festival from 1:30-2:30. Players born in 2006 or 2007 are invited to participate – learn more here.

Interested coaches should email Marissa Duguay, indicating their interest.
