(August 26, 2019) The Tier 1 Provincial Championship took place over the weekend, with teams from across the province competing for both the Provincial Title and a spot in the 2019 Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships.
“In typical fashion, the Tier 1 to Nationals & U13 Tier 1 Provincial Competitions had moments of brilliance and controversy! Goals scored, chances missed, outstanding saves and bad luck were all on display,” said Shaun Lowther, Alberta Soccer Executive Director. “A special thank-you is in order to the players who entertained us all weekend and whom this game is all about – you did us all proud with your passion, hunger, quality of play and sportsmanship.”
As always, the season’s final weekend of youth soccer showcased the remarkable talent among youth players in Alberta. Of the 48 participating teams, 6 U15 and U17 teams placed at the top of their divisions and subsequently qualified for Canada Soccer’s Toyota National Championships.
Congratulations to St Albert Impact (U15B – gold), Calgary Foothills (U15B – silver), Calgary Foothills (U15G – gold), and Millwoods Selects (GU15 – silver), who will all compete at Nationals in Edmonton this October, and to Calgary Foothills’ U17 male and female squads, both of whom qualified for Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI.
