ASA and WhitecapsIt was an exciting day for several Alberta players yesterday, as the list of those who have been selected to participate in the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U13-U14 Combine was released.

The competition, which falls in alignment with the LTPD Stage – Training to Train, is intended for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Canada Soccer to scout and identify the ‘Elite Player’. Taking place in Richmond, BC, from March 20th – 24th players may be identified for inclusion in either the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency or Canada Soccer REX programming.

Team Alberta male players could join the ranks of Alphonse Davies, Sam Adekugbe, Jackson Farmer and Chris Serban, who are among several Alberta Soccer Alumni who’ve found success with the Vancouver Whitecaps. In fact, Alphonse Davies was at this same event just over 2 years ago and is now a regular with the Vancouver Whitecaps First team at just 16 years of age.

Team Alberta female players could also be identified as the next Steph Labbe, Erin McLeod or Sarah Kinzner, who are among the long list of Albertan’s that have represented Canada at FIFA World Cups.

The players heading to the combine were selected from the pool of this year’s Winter Training Program participants. The program consisted of ten sessions and numerous friendlies between the North and South teams in Red Deer, Alberta.

In addition to the Alberta South and Alberta North teams, players from Manitoba, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Newfoundland, and PEI will also be attending the showcase, being held at the Minoru Sports complex.

Players will also be exposed to player development presentations made by the Vancouver Whitecaps and Canada Soccer.
