Alberta Soccer began recommending and teaching the preferred training model to communities in Alberta just three years ago. With its emphasis on fun, physical literacy and coach education and training for volunteer grassroots coaches, both FIFA and Canada Soccer recommend the preferred training model for grassroots players under the age of 12.

Member associations, communities and clubs can now apply to host a 2017 FUNdamentals Festival through the Alberta Soccer Association. The FUNdamentals Festivals are a day event where coach volunteers are given training on how to run the preferred training model and put this training into practice with 80 U6-U9 children who are treated to a fun filled afternoon. Alberta Soccer will provide head coaches to lead the training of coach volunteers in five chosen communities and five returning communities who participated in the program last year. We will also provide a $2000 grant to put on the festival for the day, a $500 Coach Honorarium and NCCP FUNdamentals Training for all coaches who participate.  More information on these festivals and how to apply can be found on our Festivals webpage. The deadline for completed applications is January 15, 2017.
