(July 31, 2017) – While the Team AB girls are in the midst of the 2017 Canada Games competition, the boys are just getting started. In preparation for their first game against PEI on August 8th, the boys’ training camp will get underway in St. Albert tomorrow.

Meet the Team: Óscar Miranda

Declared an “extremely talented player who has established himself as a team leader” by Alberta Soccer Technical Director, Shaun Lowther, Óscar Miranda is one of the 18 players on the male squad.

Óscar was born in El Salvador, where despite the danger and subsequent lack of freedom, he developed a love for the “beautiful game.” In 2010, Óscar moved to Canada and was delighted to be able to play anywhere he wanted – including on “nice soccer fields.” He began practicing every day with his brother, which led him to the Edmonton Strikers Soccer Club and eventually to the FC Edmonton Academy. He was finally able to freely participate in the game that “gives [him] a feeling like no other.”

Óscar credits his coaches, teammates, family and friends for continuously pushing him to improve. And now, he explains, “I am proudly ready to represent Alberta for the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.”

We’re proud to have you, too, Óscar! We wish you and your teammates the best of luck at the Games next week!
